Did you know that your body is a system? Our organs, arteries, veins, nerves and everything else are interconnected, intertwined and necessary to each other. The Maximized Living Doctor Katie Benson provides help that can make this system work most effectively.
It seems simple to say that everything works together, or at least should when all is going well, but understanding that is not always as easy. Maybe a simple example will help to clarify.
What is the one phrase all of us heard more than anything else growing up? (Well, for me, it was “that wouldn’t have happened if you’d had shoes on,” but this was a close second.) Give up? “Stand up straight.”
Teachers, parents, grandmothers…. The list of people concerned to make sure we were not slouching is endless. They all had their reasons. Teachers didn’t want us to slouch because it was that much easier to fall asleep at our desks when we were boneless in the chairs. Mothers and grandmothers seemed primarily concerned that we not grow humps on our backs from stooping over. There were more reasons, to do with not looking slovenly or unlady/gentlemanlike, and the list goes on.
While they were wrong about the humps – that has more to do with genetics and bone density than posture – they were right about standing up straight; even when it came to sleeping in class.
Good posture helps us breathe better. Standing up straight means we can get more oxygen into our systems. More oxygen leads to a whole range of wonderful things all of which feed off one another.
If you have more oxygen in your body, you have more energy. More energy means you are better equipped to face your day. It also makes it easier to lose weight or not gain it in the first place. Believe it or not, breathing better during the day will help you sleep better at night, which will give you more energy that will…
If all this results from improved posture, jut think of what making sure your whole body is working well and is healthy can do. Find out with Maximized Living Doctor Katie Benson.
